Stalin's birthplace is labeled in cyan:
Most of Stalin's notable life events, however, took place in the Soviet Union (currently Russia), which is shown in red:

This photograph shows how Stalin took a formerly faltering nation and transformed it into a nation that could conquer the Nazis. This is a part of history often overlooked by history books due to the upcoming Cold War during the 1950s.

Why I chose this person and why you should read about him
Stalin may have killed many, but he industrialized a nation that was 3rd world to a productive superpower able to launch spacecraft. We can’t overlook his success just because he did some unpleasant things.
The theme of Stalin's life was going against all odds in a revolutionary way. Both Napoleon and Martin Luther King Jr did this, but never at such a rapid pace and never in such a brazen manner. These people, while having radically different ideologies, inspire me in that they make me aware of how an individual can raise to a powerful position. It's how we use that power that defines who we are.

Retrospective
The historical tale of Stalin and the Russian Revolution is also that of a cautionary one, in that one must be careful in where revolutions lead. The Bolsheviks and their revolution, while seemingly idealistic and fighting for the common man at first glance, only resulted in one autocratic, initially powerful but inevitably failing nation being replaced with another.
Inevitably, this new nation also fell. When individuals of differing skills and differing aspirations attempt to achieve a collective goal, the nation inevitably undoes itself.
